Proclaimation

In 1964 five churches came together out of a conscious need for a united Christian witness in northwest Yonkers.

WHEREAS, we believe in God the Father almighty.

WHEREAS, we believe that Christ died on the cross for our salvation.

WHEREAS, we believe that Christ was resurrected from the dead.

WHEREAS, we believe in life everlasting, and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

We come together in this moment to give thanks to God for our survival and another year. Like the pilgrims in 1621 at the first Thanksgiving, we come together to share the bounty of the harvest. We acknowledge one another and what we bring to the table.

WHEREAS, like the pilgrims, we ask the Lord’s blessing.

WHEREAS, North Yonkers Community Church’s Mission Ministry outreach stretches beyond local, community and county to international borders.

WHEREAS, the mission and activities of the North Yonkers Community Church have been maintained by its faithful and dedicated members.

WHEREAS, the North Yonkers Community Church is a place where friends and family can gather to experience and share our faith.

WHEREAS, our caring Christian community welcomes everyone to share in our praise and worship services.

WHEREAS, through the years, the Women’s Society provided grants to charitable organizations such as the Salvation Army, The YWCA and the Methodist Home, to name a few.

WHEREAS, the Women’s Society provided scholarships to high school seniors, as well as those seeking higher education.

WHEREAS, the Christian Education program played a vital role in the life of the church by providing Sunday School classes for children and adults.

WHEREAS the Christian Education program hosted Vacation Bible School to include church families as well as youth from the Graham School of Hastings.

WHEREAS, the North Yonkers Community Church teenage youth program provided a link and outreach to community organizations.

WHEREAS, the North Yonkers Community Church has invited leaders in the community to participate, share and enrich our church services. These persons have included a state senator, artist, ministers and heads of civic organizations.

WHEREAS, the North Yonkers Community Church spearheaded a very successful Memorial plaque fundraiser dedicated to loved ones.

WHEREAS, the North Yonkers Community Church throughout its history hosted church fairs, festivals and sales.

WHEREAS, the youth of the church have organized spaghetti suppers, car washes, and other fundraisers.

WHEREAS, the Music Ministry has played a vital role in the life of the church.

WHEREAS, the Music department directs a choir for worship services, a handbell choir for special events, and extends invitations to professional musicians to enhance the worship experience.

WHEREAS, the Music department presents concerts to the church family as well as the community.

WHEREAS, the Communication Committee has enhanced the church outreach via social media and on-line newsletters.

WHEREAS, the North Yonkers Community Church can provide sign language for the worship experience.

WHEREAS, members of this congregation have come together to share their collective thoughts.

WHEREAS, we welcome all our guests as we pause to give thanks.

Now therefore we, proclaim that the North Yonkers Community Church, rooted in the soil of faith, anchored in Christian belief, accept God in the life and mission of the church, acknowledge today as a day of Thanksgiving in the life of this church, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
